Well, hi all
let me give you the short version:
I decided to start dabbling in motorcycles about 9 months ago. All went well until January 6, when I had an accident. I won’t discuss the accident for legal reasons, but the injuries were:
- multiple fractures in pelvis
- bad break in right elbow
- left femur/hip broken badly enough to require replacement.
- open wounds to knees, but no structural damage
I started out at Baptist South where I was stablized, diagnosed, and packaged up for flight to UAB, where they cleaned out my knees under general anesthetic on the 7th and repaired the pelvis (except the left hip) and arm on the 9th. That surgery was very long and took kind of a toll on my body.
They sent me to UAB Highlands for recovery, and hoped to do the hip early this week, but I didn’t recover my electrolytes fast enough, so surgery is now on track for Monday, January 21.
Current status is – I’m bedridden due to the injuries, but not in much pain, and increasingly able to do frivolous stuff like blog about my situation. Only internet access at the hospital is a very slow cellular modem.
After surgery, I will have to be in a wheelchair for up to 3 months, but I’m expected to make a full recovery once all the rehab and physical therapy is over.
Work situation is under control, thanks to a great staff. As I’m increasingly able to get on line, I hope to get back into work as soon as possible.
No, I’m not getting back on a motorcycle.
