In the past, I had blogs at logosmith.net and askgaryanother.com (not linking because who knows where or what those sites will be if you’re reading them in the future). I have pulled all the posts from askgaryanother into this site via the magic of WordPress import/export functions.
For the past hour or so I’ve been de-duping, killing off comments (most of which were of some historical value, but unfortunately point back to old domains), and trying to fix links where appropriate (if you’re reading a blog post of mine from 2007, dead links are just part of the record now).
In reviewing the old posts, which I’ll try to go back and read at more leisure to fix problems, I’m struck by how disjointed and compartmentalized my life seemed over 15 years ago. Difficulties rationalizing who I was to people in church circles, business circles, personal circles – all self-inflicted, and I’m not out of the woods yet. But more at peace these days, especially with recent events. If there’s a value in old posts from 2007, it’s probably more about that then tech ephemera.
As always, wishing I had been more consistent. But in some weird inversion of that “footprints in the sand” sappiness, it seems when times were toughest I least wanted to talk about it.
A couple of recent events to commemorate:
- Received a generous grant to go full-time into business again. This time with a plan, financial and moral support, and a great community.
- My son Nathan received a great job offer yesterday, so both sons are on a great footing to start their careers. George is a few months in to a job with Alabama Department of Revenue.
Grateful.
